By Steve StevensA driving school has a new name, a new goal, and a new clientele.
With the launch of the newest edition of its Driving School series, Taggarts Driving School in Bremerton, Wash., it seems there’s been a lot of turnover since its inaugural edition in 2017.
Its new name?
Taggart Driving School.
The name change comes as the school’s former owner is seeking bankruptcy protection.
The school is currently located in a secluded part of Bremerland.
A petition on Change.org to keep the school in Brevard County was recently approved by Brevard voters.
The driving school is the first new-car program to be operated by the Brevard School District since it opened its doors in 2013.
In 2018, the Breckenridge Drive School opened in East Brevard, and the Bremer School District was one of six cities in Bremeline to be designated a high school destination.
The new Taggarton Driving School will feature two new vehicles and a third that will be a combination of two other vehicles.
The new vehicle will be called a “Jumbo.”
The new vehicle in the program is a 2017 Subaru Impreza.
The previous model was a 2016 Crosstrek.
A third vehicle in this class will be the same model but with a Subaru Imposta-like body.
This is the Subaru WRX STI.
The previous car in the class, the 2016 Subaru Imreza STI, is also a model with a new body.
In 2019, the Taggarte Driving School was a part of a $2.6 million campaign that brought more than 1,500 new cars to the area.
In November, the school opened its new office at the Bremeland Airport.
The campaign ended in October 2019, when the Brebex School District passed a budget that required it to close the school and start a new one.
The school’s last day will be Sept. 1.
Brevard County commissioners approved the budget proposal in March 2020.
The Brevard Board of Education will vote on the school charter in May 2021.
